The "Missing dots" is an extremely common quality problem in rotogravure printing; "missing dots" are those points in the print where the ink (having been only partially emitted from the cylinder cells) has not been perfectly transferred to the substrate (paper or film) to be printed.
The ACE Rotostatic system of "electrostatic printing assist" guarantees complete and accurate ink transfer to paper or film, even at higher production speeds, without the need for excessive roller pressure.

Figure 1 shows a full rotogravure
cell and the most typical surface
resulting from the elimination
of excess ink from the cylinder
surface. Other than by increasing
the pressure from the impression
roller, it is difficult for
the substrate to come into contact
with the ink surface when located
under the cylinder surface. |
|

Figure 2 shows the ink in a
rotogavure cell under the influence
of a magnetic field created by
the ACE Rotostatic system. The
change in shape of the ink surface
draws part of the ink up above
the surface of the cylinder,
so as to guarantee perfect contact
with the substrate. |
The main advantages of ACE Rotostatic system are the following:
• excellent print-quality and homogeneous ink-density in all the various shades, especially in light tones and nuances.
• increased print quality on low-grade or recycled paper and on strongly insulating plastic film
• faster production speeds.
• reduction of cleaning operations on the printing cylinder (thanks to the ACE system, ink won't dry up in the cells anymore).
• ink savings.
• longer lasting coating on the pressure roller, thanks to the reduction in pressure required upon the material to be printed.
Furthermore, the reduction in pressure from the pressure roller guarantees noticeable savings in energy and related costs, as well as a drastic reduction in “material breakages”.
The ACE Rotostatic system is commonly used in all rotogravure printing processes:
• flexible packaging, publication and catalogues, wood-grane, transfer paper ... and with both solvent- and water-based inks. |

Bar type DE
R40/S
Pressure roller's electrostatic bar, provided with the new technology TOTAL CHARGE.
Thanks to its peculiar manufacturing features, its charging electrodes don't get dirty (it's not necessary to clean them periodically); for this reason the bar type DE R40/S is particularly suitable for rotogravure machines printing magazines and periodicals. II 2G Ex s IIB T6

ASC
44
The intelligent “computerised electronic” system ACE ASC 44 is currently the most sophisticated remote control device available on the market.
The system consists of an industrial PC with a 12” touch screen, through which it is possible to activate and manage the running of a special supervising program which in turn controls the running of the ACE Rotostatic system installed on the rotogravure printing press.
The ACE supervising program includes:
• Video pages, which give a graphic representation of the printing unit and of the ACE devices installed; the various working parameters of each unit are also given.
• A special PRESCRIPTION program, through which the settings for each production cycle can be memorised, and a suitable code assigned to them.
• List available to memorise ALARMS and EVENTS
• Numerous other “system safety” functions, thanks to which the ASC 44 system can be efficiently interfaced with various signals (end of run and/or others) sent by the rotogravure press.
• Optionally, the ASC 44 system can be provided with remote assistance
Although its constructional and functional features are highly sophisticated, the ACE ASC 44 electronic computerised system is easy to use; operators love its simplicity of use, which offers them:
• rapidity in changing jobs without any time loss
• convenience for setting and varying working parameters
• a reduction of waste and non-conforming material

Remote control panel QG 12
The remote control electronic panels (RCU 40, see next description), in the same number as the elements in which the ACE Rotostatic system is installed, are mounted one beside the other on the rotogravure press control panel or (on request) in a “modular version” in the control panel ACE QG 12. |

|
|
RCU 40
This control system consists of a panel with a special membrane keyboard and electronic cards to acquire and elaborate datas coming from ACE antistatic and electrostatic equipment installed in every single printing unit.
Furthermore, the cards allow the acquisition of incoming signals from the rotogravure press (alarms, pressure roller activation, material breakage…), thus enabling the printer to work safely and guaranteeing an optimal system performance.
The RCU 40 panels (in the same number as the elements in which the ACE Rotostatic system is installed) are then mounted one beside the other on the rotogravure press control panel or (on request) in a “modular version” in the control panel ACE QG 12. |
